Dr. Christoph Sowada

Dr. Sowada is an academic teacher and professor at the Institute of Public Health Jagiellonian University Medical College and a researcher, specialising in health economics and economics of health insurance.  He holds a PhD in economics from the University of Potsdam/Germany (2000) (Dissertation – theme: Health Security and Social Health Insurance - Normative Principles and their Realization in the Polish Social Health Insurance). He holds habilitation in economics from the Economic University in Krakow (2014). He was Research Assistant at the Institute of Economics II at the Justus-Liebig-University Gießen  from 1994 to 1995 and at the Institute of Public Finance at the University of Potsdam /Germany from 1995 to 2000. Since June 2019, he is a Professor at the Institute of Public Health at the Jagiellonian University of Krakow. He was a member of the research team on the ACE Research Projects (1993-1994 and 1997-1999), CASE-Warsaw Project (2002-2004), GVG/European Commission Project (2002), ASSPRO Project (2009-2013), Prohealth 65+ (2014-2017) and many others. Since September 2016, he is director of the Institute of Public Health JU MC. Since October 2019 he is Director of the Doctoral Programme in Health Sciences at the Doctoral School of Medical Sciences and Health Sciences Jagiellonian University. He is member of the German Economic Association (Verein für Sozialpolitik) and the Polish Public Health Association. He is author of nearly 100 scientific publications in the field of health economics and health insurance.

Dr. Ewa Kocot

Ewa Kocot is a health economist. She received a master’s degree in mathematics at Jagiellonian University in Kraków (Poland) and then also completed the postgraduated Study of Management and Administration of Public Health at School of Public Health in Kraków. Thereafter, her professional interests have been linked with health issues. In 2009 she obtained her PhD in Economy with a thesis on the potential application of health indicators in  health care sector expenditure prognosis.

 Ewa Kocot has worked in the Institute of Public Health Jagiellonian University Medical College for more than 25 years. She teaches the basics of economy and finances, economics of health care sector and economics of health insurance on courses for Polish students, she also teaches students from different countries how to prepare prognostic models of the health care expenditure on the European Master in Public Health programme.

The main areas of professional interest are the measurement and valuation of health and health outcomes, health indicators construction and application, the analyses of the expenditure and revenue on health care (determinants, projections).
