Katia Mifsud holds a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from the University of Malta, where she also studied at Bath Spa University. She has completed her Master in Gerontology and Geriatrics at the University of Malta and is enrolled in the Master in Systemic Family Psychotherapy.
Her work experience involved meaningful activities projects at Karen Grech Rehabilitation Hospital and Active Ageing Malta sessions with persons living with dementia. Katia was involved in a staff training project of various long term care institutions, working with persons living with dementia. She has also carried out valuable work at geriatrics wards within the Clinical Psychology department at Mater Dei state Hospital in Malta.
Katia has participated in the ‘Gerontological Geriatric and Dementia Care in Malta & Gozo: Present and Future Challenges’ – United Nations Conference 2018, held in Malta. Her contribution gave an important outlook on alternative approaches to dementia care.
Currently she is an early stage researcher at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg in Halle (Saale), Germany with her secondment at the University of Basel, Switzerland. Katia is a PhD student in the TRANS-SENIOR programme and her research interest lies in optimising transitional care related to accidental falls of nursing home residents.
