ESR 13: Improving implementation of innovations in long-term care

16 April 2020

Early Stage Researcher 13 - Amal Fakha - Maastricht University, Maastricht, the Netherlands

Improving implementation of innovations in long-term care

Project update:
Amal started phase 1 of her research project by performing a scoping review in order to explore the body of literature from a broad angle, and to map the available evidence on what are the facilitating and inhibiting factors that can influence the implementation of transitional care innovations specific to the elderly population. Following a systematic literature search in scientific databases and screening for relevant studies; she started the data extraction and collation of results in September 2019. A theoretical implementation framework is being used for this step and a thematic data analysis will follow.

Project leaders
:
Dr. Hilde Verbeek, Prof. Dr. Jan Hamers
Department of Health Services Research, Care and Public Health Research Institute, Faculty of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences

The project will be conducted from the Living Lab in Ageing and Long-Term Care, a formal and structural collaboration of Maastricht University with 7 long-term care organisations, Zuyd University of Applied Sciences and Vocational Training Institute Gilde Zorgcollege

Objectives of the project:
a) to identify barriers and facilitators for the implementation of long-term care innovations, particularly new transitional care models;
b) to build consensus on potential implementation strategies for transitional long-term care.

Expected results:

  • a literature-based overview of factors influencing implementation of transitional care innovations (barriers and facilitators)
  • in-depth overview of real-life implementation factors with transitional care interventions as evaluated in TRANS-SENIOR, for which early stage researcher 13 will collaborate with early stage researchers 1-9
  • a toolbox of strategies for the dissemination and implementation of transitional care interventions as developed through concept-mapping and consensus building procedures

Secondments:

  • Academic secondment & Joint degree university:
    KU Leuven, Belgium
    Supervisor: Prof. Theo van Achterberg
  • Non-academic secondment:
